Is Being Sustainable Enough for Australian Wine? Regenerative agriculture can redefine what is best practice viticulture

This 2019 Nuffield scholarship report by one of the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation’s trustees, Richard Leask, explores the potential application of regenerative agriculture within viticulture. Although the report targets an Australian audience, its conclusions are drawn from Richard’s case studies of five vineyards across the globe. Viticulturists interested in switching to regenerative viticulture will particularly appreciate the report’s recommendations, which list 13 separate actions which can be undertaken to commence a journey towards a more regenerative style of farming.

The image presented here is taken from the report, and shows two vineyards 1km apart photographed on the same day, one cultivated 8 times in the growing season, the other with direct drilled cover crop.
